Vanessa Jean Landau (1968 NY — ), Founder/Director of HEROES, presents a resiliency education workshop and coaching venture that addresses how to overcome obstacles in life and go on to thrive. Ms. Landau trained and worked in social services for more than two decades, working with both mainstream and vulnerable populations, including at-risk youth, homeless persons, persons with HIV/AIDS, substance use disordered collegians.
Academic pursuits led to a Bachelor of Individualized Study in Health and Human Potential from George Mason University and a Master of Public Health in Community Health Education from the University of Maryland. She defended a Master’s thesis entitled The Resiliency Fitness Paradigm, a research-substantiated yet unprecedented framework that forms the backbone of HEROES.
Ms. Landau later earned a scholarship to a 3-month intensive with Empowered Women International. Upon conclusion of the intensive, Vanessa won the EWI Alumni Prize. The following year EWI provided another scholarship for her inclusion in Grow My Business, a 6-month immersion program. Thereafter, she launched HEROES as a business venture.
Beyond these academic and professional credentials, Ms. Landau has significant lived experience with illness, trauma, and hardship that makes her uniquely qualified to offer guidance in resiliency education.
Ms. Landau wishes to thank advisors, clients, and friends who have offered guidance and feedback. She offers further gratitude to all workshop participants to date. Vanessa currently lives in Hyattsville, MD.
